A cornucopia. A symbol of abundance. A gift that keeps on giving. A creative. A woman. Whore of Plenty explores the theme of excess within the fashion industry, where creatives have become whores to an insatiable system. Much like the mythical horn that endlessly bestows gifts, we are constantly asked to give selflessly—more and more of ourselves—for very little in return. While this is a larger phenomenon, the struggle to make one’s name while financially surviving is especially tragic for women.
This is glorified exploitation that results in underpayment and drains creatives of their very essence. It feels like running in circles down an inescapable alley, willingly surrendering our souls to the enchanting horrors of the night. Every day, we wander around the dark unknown like beggars, asking for scraps of what is rightfully ours and longing to belong. At least whores get paid; creatives often work for nothing, driven only by the uncertain promise that “doors will open someday.” Hope is a currency we cannot afford, yet nevertheless accept. Dreams do come true, but how many fade into the fog as the soul runs dry before the promise manifests?
Alas, fashion glamour gently suffocates because the air you breathe gives life to someone else’s dream. And yet, there is a certain allure in something so unattainable. As an outsider finds beauty in the lifeless look, the dark alley consumes another soul.
